In Eclipse, the steaminess cranks up a bit as Bella is determined to make love to Edward before they get married. So determined that he has to repeatedly tell her to keep her clothes on. Later it's Bella who stops Edward from going to fourth base. So, in short, both keep resisting the temptation. In general, Meyer takes great care to keep Bella and Edward's love tasteful, idealistic, and fairytale-like, with happy goose bumps, blushing cheeks and all.
