Bring on the tough stuff - there’s not just one right answer.
- Why isn't God mentioned at all in the book of Esther? Is this just not that kind of book, or is there a point to the absence?
- Is there evidence of God working behind the scenes? If so, what?
- Why does Ahasuerus change his mind about the genocide? Sure he loves Esther, but does he actually change his principles to become a more humane ruler?
- Do you think Esther and Mordecai were right for allowing a retaliatory massacre to happen against Haman's party?
- What are Haman's motives? Why is the dude such a hater?
- What qualities make Mordecai heroic and noble? How does he compare with similar heroes like Daniel and Joseph? Does he measure up to their level?
- How does Esther compare with Queen Vashti? How do they relate to Ahasuerus differently?
- The book doesn't really discuss what Queen Vashti's reasons were for disobeying Ahasuerus, but can you speculate on what her reasons might've been, knowing what you know about her husband?
- Does the story have a moral? If so, what?
