E.T.’s Timeline and Summary

  • While picking up a small tree in the forest, E.T. is left on Earth by his fellow extra-terrestrials and chased by Keys.
  • E.T. meets Elliott face-to-face in the cornfield behind Elliott's house.
  • Lured by candy, E.T. takes up residence in Elliott's closet.
  • E.T. meets Michael and Gertie.
  • E.T. levitates some items in Elliott's room and brings dead geraniums back to life.
  • Home alone, E.T. gets drunk on Coors while Elliott exhibits the same symptoms of intoxication at school.
  • After being inspired by a Buck Rogers comic and a long distance telephone commercial, E.T. hatches a plan to build a communicator.
  • Gertie teaches E.T. to talk, and E.T. tells the kids he needs to "phone home."
  • With the help of Elliott, E.T. gets the communicator up and running in the forest. On the way, he makes Elliott's bike fly.
  • E.T. goes missing. Michael finds him facedown in a riverbed. He's really sick.
