Bobby's Family

The best guide that Bobby has throughout the novel is really a compilation of the adults in his family. His mother forces him to assume responsibility for Feather once he decides to keep her; his brother, Paul, understands what Bobby's going through since he has two children himself, and Bobby a way out of the city. And although Bobby's father may be more of a peripheral character, he lends Bobby the emotional help that Bobby needs. No one exactly takes the reigns, but each member of Bobby's family shows up for him in their own way and helps him along his path.
