Obviously, this book is full of hot topics: sex, drinking, menstruation, bullying, artificial intelligence…the list goes on. The book has been on the ALA's banned books list and some parents cry foul when it's assigned in class. How do you deal with all this?

For one thing, if any of these hot topics come up and the kids wonder why you're reading this book, use it as part of "The Great Debate" activity. Have them research the pros and cons for allowing or not allowing the book to be read in school by adolescents. Let them talk it out.
