Character Analysis
Birds of a Feather
We've covered Tris enough in Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant. Seriously, the girl has about 1,800 pages devoted to her, so we're not going to learn anything new about her here.
But Tris does appear in the fourth story, "The Traitor" and we follow Four's thought process from the time he meets her, up until they share their first kiss. At first, she's just an initiate. She seems fragile, but Four realizes she has inner strength. He watches her grow, like how she deals with her strange fear of crows by getting a bird tattoo.
And he starts to believe that she's the only person he can talk to:
I need to talk to someone. I need to trust someone. And for whatever reason, I know, I know it's [Tris]. I'll have to start by telling her my name. (4.335-4.336)
We see how much they have in common. They both came from the same faction. They both are the only Abnegation transfers in their years. And they both change their name when they get there. By the end of the seventh little tale, a scene from Divergent told from Four's POV, he realizes, "I prefer her to alcohol" (7.23). Hmm, we're not sure if that's a healthy substitute or not!
