The Patriarchy

You might think that Alpha is the antagonist because Frankie's always pitted against him. After all, he takes up her boyfriend's time and is her direct competition when she starts to impersonate him. But Alpha's not all bad, and what Frankie is really fighting against is the patriarchy (in true feminist fashion). She doesn't want to live according to all these unspoken rules anymore. She doesn't want to hear that she can't be in the Loyal Order of the Basset Hounds because they only allow boys. She wants to change the rules so that they suit her better.
