Captain Nicholl

For most of the novel, Captain Nicholl is the only person who opposes the Gun Club's project. He's a long-time rival of Barbicane, inventing the only armour-plates in the world that could deflect Barbicane's shot. After the war, he launches a public campaign against the lunar mission and publishes countless op-eds tearing the project to pieces. So you can understand why it shocks us when Nicholl makes a complete about-face and joins Team Gun Club.
