Ole Edvard Rölvaag might get a little intense with his descriptions at times, but the language in this book reads pretty easily when you compare it to other books written in the 1920s. We're looking at you, Virginia Woolf.
If there's anything in this book that's going to make things difficult, it's the way Rölvaag keeps describing how empty and desolate the American plains are. Oh, and his love of ellipses. This is one dot-happy novel, that's for sure.
