Rita (Andie MacDowell)’s Timeline and Summary

Rita shows up as Phil Connors' new producer and spends some time playing with his blue computer weatherboard. Phil basically rolls his eyes and figures that Rita is too naïve to work in the media.
Rita rides in the weather van with Phil to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. They argue about whether the Groundhog Festival there is dumb or nice. Rita thinks it's a nice wholesome event for nice wholesome people.
Once Phil realizes he's reliving Groundhog Day over and over, he eventually spends his time trying to get Rita into bed. He learns as much as he can about her and quickly realizes she's a really good person.
Rita sees through Phil's attempts to seduce her and slaps him in the face. She accuses him of being selfish and says she could never love someone like him.
Rita finds herself becoming attracted to Phil over and over as he learns more about her with each new Groundhog Day. But it's not until Phil genuinely dedicates himself to helping others that Rita falls for him and spends the night with him. The decision seems to be what pulls Phil from his endlessly repeating experience of Groundhog Day.
