Winnie

Winnie is stuck. Literally. Her situation doesn't improve and the end of the play leaves us wondering whether she's going to die or live happily ever after (well, as much as that's possible when you're stuck in the sand like an ostrich). Nevertheless, it goes without saying that Winnie is anything but a Debbie Downer. She maintains a positive outlook on life, even after things go from bad to worse, and she does go out with a song, folks. So, despite everything that's happening to her, she perseveres, and in our book that makes her a hero.
