  1. Lord Jim
    Like Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad's novel Lord Jim is a tale told by one Captain Marlow—a guy who's clearly had a lot of adventures at sea. This particular tale is about a sailor named Jim who abandons his sinking ship (and all of its passengers) along with the other members of the crew. Nice crew, huh? 

  2. Things Fall Apart
    Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe famously criticized Heart of Darkness as racist. Achebe's Things Fall Apart, a novel that also deals with European colonization of Africa, can be read as a critique of Conrad's work.
