Heimdall Gossip

Heimdall Gossip

The southernmost neighborhood in the Norwegian city of Trondheim is named after Heimdall. We bet it's a pretty safe neighborhood.

Check this out: an Italian metal band takes its name from Heimdall, and one of their tracks is called "Lord of the Sky." Coincidence? We think not.

Nobody is quite sure what Heimdall's name means, but one scholar theorizes that it's "the one who illuminates the world." What's your guess? (Source, 135.)

In a recent-ish archeological find, Heimdall's name was identified (alongside the names of Odin and Þjalfi, Odin's servant) in a runic inscription on a spindle whorl in England. That means it was written down a long, long time ago. (Source.)
