Madeleine

It's hard to tell if Madeleine is as bad a person as Herzog says she is. But if we look at the facts alone, she doesn't come across too well. For starters, she manipulates Herzog into buying a new home and getting a job for his buddy Val when she knows full well that she plans on dumping Herzog and having Val move into the new house with her. Ick.

Sure, she would no doubt have her own side of the story, but this is a really low move. Besides, the perspective of this book is totally determined by Herzog. So if he thinks of Madeleine as his greatest enemy, then for the purposes of this book, she is.
