Walter

Usually in a romantic comedy, you don't think of the lovers as antagonists; they're trying to get together, not bash each other into submission.

His Girl Friday is a bash-into-submission kind of film, though. Walter is the big tornado of whirling words between Hildy and Albany. But he's also the guy giving her the opportunity for career success.

So he's kind of both the antagonist and the mentor. No wonder he's got to say so much; he's got two roles to fill at once.
