The Great Arsenal of Democracy: There's No Reasoning With Fascists (Sentences 90-111) Summary

Appease? Please!

  • No more Mr. Nice Guy—it's not going to work with the Nazis. Only surrendering to the Nazis will bring peace, and that will come at too high a cost.
  • Anyone who's still voting for appeasement hasn't learned anything from Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, and France. Calling it "negotiated peace," and assuming the bloodshed will be stopped isn't true—it didn't stop the Germans from killing many people in those occupied countries.
  • Dictated peace would lead to an armistice, and the craziest arms race in history. And it wouldn't really be peaceful, because as the Germans are talking about peace, they're throwing people in concentration camps all around Europe.
  • Germany's "new order" is the exact opposite of all America stands for—at its core, the Axis wants to dominate the world and enslave everybody.
