The Winter's Tale

  • Days go by and Horton still sits on the egg. He sits all the way through fall and into winter. He's in it for the long haul.
  • Winter is awful for Horton. He is totally frozen and uncomfortable, but determined to keep the egg from perishing at all costs. 
  • He says: "I'll stay on this egg and I won't let it freeze./ I meant what I said/ And I said what I meant…/ An elephant's faithful/ One hundred percent!" (67-71)
