Inside Out Scene 3 Summary

  • Riley overhears her dad discussing business troubles on the phone.
  • The emotions in Riley's head debate what to do. Everybody but Joy thinks they should be allowed to take control because Riley doesn't have anything to be happy about.
  • They run through a laundry list of grievances, like how all of Riley's friends are back in Minnesota and how pizza's weird here.
  • They also run through a list of possible remedies, like skipping school and locking themselves in the bedroom or screaming that curse word they know. After all, it is a good one.
  • Mom comes up to kiss Riley goodnight. The moving truck has been delayed again. Anger takes the control panel and Riley issues a couple of well-placed withering scowls.
  • Then Mom thanks Riley for being their usual, happy little girl through all this moving stress, and the scowls come to a quick end.
  • The emotions all agree that what Mom says, goes. Happy it is.
  • Joy's on Dream Duty while Riley sleeps, monitoring her dreams. Riley's dreams aren't very pleasant: they're filled with creepy old houses and organic broccoli pizza.
  • Joy calls an audible and disconnects the dream feed, which appears to be controlled by some other part of Riley's brain that we haven't seen.
  • Then she pulls up a happy memory of a pint-sized Riley skating on a frozen pond with her parents. That's more like it.
