- Dana and Kevin travel to Maryland as soon as Dana feels well enough (after losing her arm). They go to where the Weylin plantation should be standing, but Dana can't find it.
- They go check out some newspaper articles and see that the Weylin plantation burned down on the same day Dana murdered Rufus. Dana figures that Nigel must have set fire to the house to conceal what Dana had done. Dana can't find any evidence of what happened to Rufus' slaves after he "died in the fire."
- Dana and Kevin both end the book by saying they're glad Rufus Weylin is dead. So, just in case you had some sympathy for the guy, this book wants to encourage you not to.
