Exactly how steamy is this story?
R
One of the main characters in Lonesome Dove is a whore. She thinks of herself as a whore. Everyone else calls her a whore. It's a world where being a whore is perfectly acceptable, though it's still not a job most women actually want. Lorena is trying to get away from the whore lifestyle, but other women, like Elmira's friend Jennie, seem to like it.
Considering all the whores in the cast of characters, it shouldn't be a surprise that there is a lot of sex in Lonesome Dove. However, what keeps this book from being branded XXX is the fact that the sex that happens is often over very quickly. Men in this world get it over with ASAP, whether they intend to or not. Maybe the ladies charge by the minute?
Sex with women who aren't whores happens rarely, but that too is often over quickly. And when it happens, there are often creative euphemisms used, like "carrot," which is Gus's favorite term for a certain part of his anatomy—and we don't mean his nose.
