The Canterbury Tales: the Man of Law's Tale Lines 1121-1162 Summary

Lines 1121-1127

  • Let's wrap this sucker up, shall we?
  • Since Maurice is the grandson of the Emperor, that makes him the future Emperor of Rome.
  • And one day, he becomes the Emperor, doing great honor to the Church.
  • But we're talking about Custance here, so enough about Maurice.

Lines 1128-1141

  • When Alla finds the proper time, he returns with Custance to England, where they live in joy and peace. Maybe they send a few postcards to Maurice in Rome.
  • Of course, their lives had trials, too. What life doesn't?
  • Which brings us to...

Lines 1142-1148

  • Before long (before even a year, to be exact), King Alla dies.
  • Custance mourns, of course, and then heads back to Rome.

Lines 1149-1162

  • Custance arrives back in Rome to find her friends happy and healthy. She reunites with her father again, weeping of course.
  • They live happily and virtuously ever after.
  • And that's where the Man of Law's tale ends.
