M.C. Higgins, the Great Steaminess Rating

Exactly how steamy is this story?

PG-13

To be honest, there really isn't much steamy action in the book. But it still scores a PG-13 by our standards because it touches on some tricky, potentially racy, and even disturbing topics.

Like rape. Okay, rape doesn't actually happen in the book, but the way M.C. "preys" on Lurhetta is flat-out weird. He even describes the way he tracks Lurhetta the first time he sees her just like the way he hunts animals.

Then he physically gets into a small fight with her because he tries to kiss her when she doesn't even know who he is.

And he lets us know that sneaking up on a girl and trying to steal a kiss isn't new to him; he's done it to another girl before Lurhetta.

Don't get us wrong; M.C.'s a decent guy. But there's a definite ick-factor to the way he views Lurhetta and girls his age in general.

Let's just put it this way: If a guy on a date were to pull some of the stuff M.C. pulls, there would definitely be some red flags and ringing bells warning us about trouble ahead.

So: nothing that would make your parents hide the book from you, but also definitely not kiddie material.
