Miltiades "Milton" Stephanides and Theodora "Tessie" Zizmo Stephanides Timeline & Summary

Milton and Tessie are first cousins, but that doesn't stop them from falling in love.
However, Tessie denies Milton's affections, and Milton enlists in World War II.
Right before a huge battle that seems likely to kill him, Milton is saved by, we don't know, fate? He gets moved into a non-combat role.
When he returns home, Tessie marries him. They have two kids: Chapter Eleven and Calliope, and they never notice anything unusual about Calliope's body as they raise her.
Milton takes over the Zebra Room but it gets firebombed in the Detroit race riots. (Milton is kind of a racist.)
He uses the insurance money to buy a house on Middlesex and send Calliope to private school.
Eventually he opens a new business, Hercules Hot Dogs, which becomes a successful franchise.
After they discover that Calliope might be male sexed, they travel to New York City to see a specialist, but Cal runs away.
While Cal is gone, Milton gets a call that his daughter has been kidnapped (this isn't true, but Milton doesn't realize it).
Milton chases the blackmailer (who turns out to be his brother-in-law, Father Mike) and dies in a car crash.
Tessie, meanwhile, stays home to organize the funeral, when her daughter, who is now her son, returns home. She seems to be okay with it, but we never hear about her again, so we don't actually know for sure.
