Shady Howard

Miss Sadie was in the running here, but we're going to come down on the side of Shady. Even though Miss Sadie's the one telling Abilene the story, she's doing it as much for herself as for Abilene. But Shady is a protector and mentor for Jinx and Abilene, and it's all just for the sake of selflessness. Shady's the one who actually explains things, too, rather than letting the kids draw their own conclusions, and he really makes an effort to help them through whatever problems they're facing.
