Guide Mentor
Character Role Analysis
James
James is a pretty well rounded, well-educated, philosophical teenager, don't you think? For someone who has every right to be as hostile and mercurial as Link, James maintains an even keel and a way of handling conflict that most adults would envy. Instead of losing his cool or going off on emotional outbursts (which would be a more typical teenage reaction), James tends to reflect on disagreements, preferring to analyze both sides before coming to a level-headed conclusion.
Because of this tendency to weigh both arguments, James is like a mentor to Ellen. He can calmly discuss things like his sexual identity, Link's confusion, her dad's bigotry, and his own parent's absence with a scholarly attitude, which perfectly melds with her curious tendencies.
