Character Analysis
There's only one thing Ann Schaeffer loves more than money, and that's art. She is Jacob Kahn's long-time art dealer and agent, and when he first introduces her to Asher, she's skeptical. After she sees his paintings, however, she's convinced he's a genius:
'I have a stake in you, Asher Lev. Your art will one day make you famous and make me rich.' (217.2)
Although she is sometimes portrayed as greedy and profit-oriented, she truly believes in the talent of her artists and works to nurture it. It's thanks to her that Asher is able to have his first art show in Brooklyn, and she plays a pretty major role in grooming Asher to eventually become the famous artist she promised he'd be.
