How It All Goes Down
- We can basically some up Sheriff Bell's thoughts here as These young whippersnappers today with their tweets and chatsnaps dont know what hardship is! Why I tell you what I tell you I grew up a lot faster back in my day but today kids never aint gonna grow up.
- Then Bell thinks about how much he loves his wife. The end.
- Chigurh, who has been shot, buys some first-aid supplies at a store and then heads to a drugstore nearby.
- Chigurh rigs a car to explode, and when it blows up, creating a distraction, he walks into the drugstore and steals all the penicillin and a pair of crutches.
- Chigurh gets a room at a motel and performs amateur surgery on his gunshot-wounded leg. Then he takes a bunch of antibiotics and rests for five days.
- On the fifth night, Chigurh sees a pair of deputies eating at the café and realizes he needs to high-tail it out of there.
- Back at the sheriff's office, Bell is having coffee when a flatbed truck goes past. He pulls it over to chat with the driver.
- The driver is hauling the eight bodies away from the crime scene, and the tarp is just flapping loose, making it look like a truck hauling eight bodies down the highway. Which is just what it is.
- Bell is surprised none of the bodies flew off.
- Switch to Chigurh, who is driving when his transponder beeps. He doesn't know why it would lead him to a hotel, because he suspects that Llewelyn is dead.
- Chigurh finds the beeping unit in a drawer in a room, and he waits…
- It's Wells's room, and Chigurh gets the jump on him.
- Chigurh and Wells have a civil conversation about how crazy Chigurh is, and Chigurh shoots Wells in the face. Wells, we hardly knew ye.
- Back in Mexico, Llewelyn calls Carla Jean. He tells her that she should get the heck out of wherever she's staying and move into a motel.
- Then Llewelyn calls the number on Wells's card.
- Wells, being dead, doesn't answer. But Chigurh does.
- Chigurh tells Llewelyn that if he doesn't bring him the money, he'll kill Llewelyn's wife. Uh oh.
- Llewelyn, in nothing but a hospital gown and an overcoat, limps to the bridge, gets a cab, and, after some difficulty at the border, makes it back into the U.S.
- Llewelyn buys some clothes and some nice boots so that he won't look like an escaped mental patient.
- Meanwhile, Sheriff Bell is checking out the crime scene where Wells had been shot.
- The local sheriff asks Bell if he thinks "this whole mess has moved south" (7.2.395).
- Bell isn't sure, but he still has Llewelyn to worry about.
