Character Role Analysis
Edie Doyle
You'd think that if you helped kill someone—even inadvertently, like Terry did with Joey—you'd probably avoid falling in love with his sister. Not Terry. He goes straight for the sibling. (People always go for the least logical option).
But this turns out to be a good choice. Terry has a kind heart, under it all, and he and Edie just seem to connect. When he tells her the truth about Joey, she doesn't want to see him anymore. But, ultimately, when he decides to go against Johnny, she gets back together with him. He's making up for his small role in what happened. It might seem implausible that she'd forgive him—but it's still a nice example of the movie's message of redemption.
