The Law Man
Ned Gowan is "the quintessential man of law" (11.4) who craves adventure. He's a rare breed: a lawyer with morals. He rides with Dougal to collect rents and comes in handy in drawing up the marriage contract to wed Claire and Jamie. Plus he's handy with a gun, and shoots a man in a scuffle. He's pretty proud of himself, too, finally getting to experience the adventure he craves. He doesn't even care that he's lost a few teeth in the scuffle, since as far as he's concerned, this wild life beats time spend behind a desk any day.
