Most of your students will typically have some experience with the suburbs, whether or not they live there. After all, numerous sit-coms have been set there over the years: Leave it to Beaver, The Brady Bunch, Family Ties, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Modern Family, to name a few. Even the opening scenes of The Walking Dead, which is decidedly *not* a sit-com, take place in suburban Georgia. 

Therefore you might begin this unit by surveying your students' sense of suburban life. What is the attraction of the suburbs? What are the limitations? How does suburban life differ from life in the city or country? Would they want to spend their college years in the suburbs? Would they want to spend their adult lives there?
