Thorwald

For a villain, Thorwald doesn't have much screen time. For most of the movie, he doesn't interact with the protagonist at all. He just quietly goes about the business of murdering his wife without realizing that the photographer across the courtyard is watching his every move. That's just one of the more unusual aspects of this movie: a hero and a villain who don't come into contact until the very end.
