Exactly how steamy is this story?

It might be hard to see beneath Stendhal's 19th-century hints, but there's definitely some steam coming off the pages of this book. On at least three occasions, we're told about how Julien Sorel sneaks into his lover's room and has sex with her. On top of that, we're told about how much he continues to think about the sex afterward. But is there actually any graphic depiction of knockin' boots? Nope. This puppy was written in the 19th Century, after all.
