Tom shows aptitude as a blacksmith from an early age.
He helps his father save up for the family's freedom.
After George is sent to England, Tom and the rest of the family are sold to the Murrays.
Tom is forced to blacksmith for the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
Along with the rest of the family, he heads to Henning, Tennessee after the war and sets down roots.
