Selene (Luna)
Selene (Luna)
Selene—or Luna as the Romans called her—is the bewitching goddess of the Moon. Her pastime is driving the glowing orb across the sky every night with her chariot. The moon goddess is also known for making young men go totally crazy for her. Her most famous lover was Endymion, the dreamy shepherd, who Selene fell for—and hard. When she begged Zeus to make him immortal and forever young, the king of the gods granted her wish as long as Endymion stayed asleep forever. Interesting compromise, if you ask us. These days, Endymion lies forever asleep in a cave, where Selene comes every night and gives him the sweetest of dreams.
