Novinha (Ivanova Santa Catarina von Hesse) Timeline & Summary

Novinha's parents, Gusto and Cida, the Lusitania xenobiologists, find a cure for the Descalada virus. They save the colony but die themselves.
The community celebrates the cure while Novinha is grieving her parents' death, and as a result she is isolated and embittered.
Novinha speaks up for Marcao when he is being bullied. He is grateful.
Novinha takes the test to be the colony xenobiologist when she is thirteen, and she forms close ties with Pipo and Libo.
Novinha reads The Hive Queen and identifies with the buggers strongly; she wants to write the story of the piggies.
Pipo is killed by the piggies after Novinha shows him some information about the Descolada.
Novinha is grief-stricken; she is afraid her files on the Descolada will result in Libo's death, so she locks them.
She realizes she can't marry Libo because he will then have access to her files.
She puts out a call for a Speaker for the Dead to speak for Pipo, but she cancels the call shortly thereafter.
