Nao Kao and Foua Timeline and Summary

Nao Kao and Foua move to America, eventually making their way to Merced, California.
Their daughter Lia (the last of a whole army, practically) is born in Merced.
Lia starts having seizures and they rush her to a hospital. Neither Nao Kao nor Foua speak English, so communicating with her doctors is difficult.
After learning that the Lees aren't giving Lia her medication, Doctor Neil Ernst sends Lia into foster care. A couple years have gone by by now.
Nao Kao and Foua befriend Lia's foster mom, Dee Korda, who eventually pushes to have Lia reunited with her family. Way to go, foster mom.
Although Lia is now back home, her seizures are getting worse. Her development has noticeably slowed at this point.
Lia has a major seizure that leaves her brain-dead. Although the doctors predict that she will be dead within days, Nao Kao and Foua somehow keep her alive. Physically, at least. She's not much for communicating with people.
Desperate, Nao Kao and Foua hold a neeb ceremony to bring Lia's soul back to her body.
