Protagonist
Character Role Analysis
Blanche DuBois
Even if you find Blanche a little over-the-top from time to time, sympathy still lies with her. (And, as you see in our "Booker's Seven Basic Plots Analysis," the tragedy unfolds around her character.) Blanche is abused by those around her—mainly Stanley—into the broken woman we see in Scene Eleven. The play focuses on her dream—to marry and be taken care of—rather than on Stella’s or Stanley’s.
