Symbolism, Imagery, Allegory

When Black tells White that he knows Jesus is in the room with them—White sarcastically explains that this is crazy. He uses an illustration:

"If you and I say that I have my coat on and Cecil says that I'm naked and I have green skin and a tail then we might want to think about where we should put Cecil so he wont hurt himself." (11)

But Black pretends not to get it, asking who Cecil is, and acting like he thinks Cecil's the one who's green and naked and all that stuff. Black says that Cecil isn't here to defend his views—maybe Black and White are the crazy ones, and White really does have a tail and everything… It's a comic relief moment in a play that gets pretty serious, and also a symbolic reminder that we're in the realm of opinions and perspectives, not concrete facts.
