The Others

This is an alien apocalypse, so (surprise!) the antagonists are aliens. These particular aliens, the Others, are well on their way to wiping out the human race, having killed about seven billion people before the book even starts.

The trouble is they've cleverly disguised themselves with human faces, which makes it very hard for Cassie—and for us—to tell who's who. A good rule of thumb is that anyone who's revealed to be an alien (Vosch, for instance) is very, very bad, but there's at least one exception. His name is Evan Walker, and his breath smells like Hershey kisses. Er, not that we'd know.
