• Before the aliens came, Ben was the high school football star. He had it all.
• His family died sometime between the First and Third Waves after they were attacked by human looters. It was super traumatic, and Ben's haunted by the loss of his little sis.
• Ben ends up at Camp Haven, a military base. He has the alien plague, but he miraculously recovers.
• After Ben's body recovers, his mind takes a dark turn. He doesn't kill himself, but he stops eating.
• Ben regains his will to live after a conversation with Colonel Vosch, who encourages him to fight back against the aliens. He's filled with a terrible vengeance.
• Ben recovers and enters boot camp. (He's calling himself Zombie now, but we'll stick with Ben for clarity's sake.) He trains hard with his fellow squad mates, and they eventually graduate at the top of their class.
• He and his squad are sent out into the fray. Their mission is to kill any aliens they encounter, who they identify with a special eyepiece gadget thingie.
• During the mission, Ringer, Ben's smartest squad member, figures out that all of their commanding officers are secret aliens. Ben's mind is blown.
• Bound and determined to rescue Sammy, a young squad member they "left behind" at the base (he was too young for the mission), Ben has Ringer shoot him in the stomach so he'll be medically evacuated.
• Back at the base, Vosch seems suspicious of Ben's story. He can't test it yet because Ben's still recovering from his injury.
• Ben takes advantage of a base-wide alarm to escape his hospital room and track down Sammy.
• He gets a little more than he bargained for: Cassie found Sammy first. Together, the three of them head for the exit.
• They're blocked by Colonel Vosch, who threatens to kill all of them like the maniac he is. Evan comes to their rescue.
• Ben, Cassie, and Sammy flee the base. They're picked up by Ringer and the other squad members just in the nick of time. They drive off into the sunset.
