The Book of the City of Ladies Book 2, Chapters 51-55 Summary

  • The next several stories are examples of women who were accused of crimes by men who they'd refused to sleep with. In most cases, these women found ways of redeeming themselves, but not always.
  • At this point in the story, all of the women mentioned are people who Lady Rectitude wants to bring to live inside the City of Ladies.
  • Christine wants to know, though, why no women have before argued against all of the horrible things that men say about them. After all, if there have been thousands of great women in history, shouldn't at least one of them have spoken up and argued that the male myths about women were false?
  • After this, we get some more banter about women who have been famously constant and loyal to their husbands.
