• Rincewind spies Twoflower and Luggage in the Broken Drum. The promise of gold overwhelms his common sense, and he starts a conversation with the man.
• Twoflower hires him as his guide and offers him the first four days pay in advance.
• Rincewind bails on Twoflower and escapes Ankh-Morpork.
• Well, tries to escape, anyway—the Patrician has Rincewind brought before him and commissions him to protect Twoflower or risk pain of "Fate Worse Than Death."
• When Twoflower is captured by the Thieves Guild leader, Ymor, Rincewind must rescue him despite trying his best not to.
• Rincewind escapes from Ankh-Morpork as the city burns to the ground, Twoflower in tow; the tour of the Discworld continues into the forest.
• A series of unfortunate events involving a troll, a momma bear, a pack of wolves, and probably poisonous snake causes Rincewind to be rescued by a dryad.
• Semi-rescued at any rate. The dryad decides to kill Rincewind for injuring her tree, but he manages to use the dryad magic to teleport into the Temple of Bel-Shamharoth.
• He then escapes the Temple with the help and hindrance of Hrun the barbarian and his magic word, Kring.
• The group travels to the upside-down mountain of Wyrmberg. There, Twoflower and Hrun both are captured by the dragonriders.
• Rincewind is forced to become a hero and rescue the two. Actually, Kring plays the hero with Rincewind as his human courier.
• Instead, Twoflower ends up rescuing Rincewind after an ill-advised sword fight with Lio!rt the Dragonlord.
• On their new dragon, Twoflower and Rincewind go to retrieve Hrun, whom has done all his own rescuing all ready.
• Flying too far away from Wyrmberg, the dragon disappears. After a brief visit to our own world, Rincewind and Twoflower make it to the sea and all the way to the Rimfall.
• They are captured by a sea troll named Tethis, who turns them over to the kingdom of Krull.
• Lady Luck decides her heroes wouldn't be very heroic as sacrifices, so she frees them.
• Rincewind and Twoflower are briefly reunited with Luggage and Tethis before hijacking the Potent Voyager and journeying beyond the Discworld.
