You're probably tired of reading his name by now. This is your guy. Everything in the novel is about him, and his emotions, problems, and feelings are the only ones that we get to read about. During the novel, we see him change from a humble farmer into a fancy aristocrat and finally into an old man. Even though he doesn't always do the right thing, we are always cheering for him because, well, we're stuck with him.
