How we cite our quotes: All quotations are from The King's Speech.
Quote #1
LOGUE: How about Bertie?
BERTIE: Only my family uses that.
When Logue tries to call the Duke of York by the name Bertie, it makes the Duke very uncomfortable. He's used to a life where everyone greets him as "Your Majesty" or "sir." But Logue has no time for that because he needs to be treated like Bertie's family if he's going to help him.
Quote #2
GEORGE V: This family is reduced to those lowest, basest of all creatures... we've become actors!
King George V can't believe that his fancy royal family is in a position where it has to audition for the public's attention. In his mind, this marks a huge fall for the British Royal Family.
Quote #3
BERTIE: Papa, we're not a family, we're a firm.
Bertie doesn't think of his birth family as a family. They're more like a business in his mind because they don't really care about one another. They only care about how other people see them. And that's exactly why Bertie gets so nervous when he speaks. He has no one to make him feel safe.
