The Narrator

We don't know the narrator's name but she's the most important person in the story. She undergoes a major transformation, shifting from a bull-handed and rebellious girl to a careful and caring young woman, all in just a few pages. We know her thoughts and actions because the whole story focuses on her, and she's the one telling it, so it's hard to care too much about anyone besides her.
