The Captain

This one is pretty straightforward. Although the other men get the boat moving, the Captain is the one who decides where they're going to go, and guides them to that location. Also, take a look at the line that compares him to a man "soothing his children" (2.7). It's no accident that he's responsible for making all the decisions. He is the captain, after all.
