- In this chapter, Rosaleen and Lily arrived at August Boatwright's bright pink house, where June Boatwright (August's sister) opened the door. They also met another sister, May, while waiting for August to come see them.
- After initially letting June think that she and Rosaleen were there looking for honey, Lily ended up just telling August outright that they had run away from home and were looking for a place to stay. However, she was a lot less honest about what had brought her there in particular; it seems Lily wasn't ready to get to the bottom of her mother's story just yet.
- Despite the fact that June clearly objected to the visitors, August offered to take them in and put them to work (Rosaleen in the house and Lily with the bees). Lily asked Rosaleen to keep the lid on Lily's real reasons for being there, and Rosaleen agreed.
- The next day, when she was taking a walk, Lily came upon an interesting stone wall with little pieces of paper stuck in it. Hmm, wonder what that's about.
