Lennon "Lennie" Walker Timeline and Summary
MoreLennon "Lennie" Walker Timeline and Summary
- Roughly a month after her sister Bailey dies, Lennie goes back to school, where she meets hottie Joe Fontaine.
- As they are mourning Bailey together, Lennie and Bailey's fiancé, Toby, start kissing. Yikes.
- Joe starts visiting Lennie at her house, brightening the spirits of Gram and Uncle Big; eventually, he tells Lennie he likes her and they kiss.
- Lennie finds out Bailey was methodically searching for their mother before she died. She asks Toby why, and he tells her that Bailey was pregnant. In their grief, Lennie and Toby kiss… again. Joe catches them mid-kiss and breaks things off with Lennie.
- Lennie finds letters Gram's written to her absent mother, and the letters make her think of her mother as a real person, which makes her abandonment seem more real.
- Using Gram's magical roses, Lennie tries to get Joe back, but Joe tells Lennie he could never be with someone who could betray her sister the way she did.
- Furious that her roses are gone, Gram confronts Lennie. She yells that losing Bailey is like losing a daughter, and in all the time since Bailey's death, Lennie's never asked how she was doing.
- Lennie feels terrible. She tries to make it up to Gram by talking to her.
- In that conversation, Lennie asks Gram why she hid her mother from her, and Gram reveals that she told Lennie's mother to never come back.
- Lennie forgives Gram.
- After catching Joe out with Rachel on a date, Lennie tells Rachel she is going to challenge her for first chair in band.
- Lennie writes Joe a love poem.
- The poem feels, to Lennie, pretty terrible and sappy, so she goes to the woods where she left it, but it's gone. Joe found it, and he forgives her—for Toby, not for being such a cheese ball.
- The Walker family celebrates Uncle Big's wedding. But before the ceremony, Lennie visits the cemetery to pay her respects to her sister.
