Wendy

As the main character in The Usual Rules, Wendy is the person readers follow throughout the book—and the clear protagonist. Even though Wendy isn't an epic action star, she's still the hero of this story; after all, there's something heroic in soldiering on even after your world has been destroyed and the person you love most is killed. The story follows Wendy as she goes on her geographical and emotional journeys, learning more about herself and coming to terms with her mother's death as she goes. It's a harder path than she could ever have imagined, but she gets through it and emerges a stronger person.
