Jerry Timeline and Summary

Jerry's mother left home and died. His father died soon after. He was raised by an aunt. (What age this happened is unclear.)
At 15, Jerry had a passionate sexual affair with an older boy.
As an adult, Jerry has one-night stands with women but has no long-term girlfriend.
Jerry takes a small apartment in a poor part of New York.
His landlady hits on him; her dog attacks him.
He tries to make friends with the dog, to no avail, and eventually poisons it. It survives.
Jerry goes to the zoo. He does something possibly outrageous there; he never says what.
He discovers Peter sitting on a bench and talks at him for a long time.
He provokes Peter by trying to steal his bench. He gives Peter a knife, Peter brandishes it at him, and Jerry runs into it.
He dies.
